HTC Hero – A Good iPhone Substitute

thumbnail
HTC is not a new player in the mobile phone market. It has been around for a while and has been churning out great looking phones one after the other. The Android is here and HTC has jumped the bandwagon to make phones driven on those OS. Barring a few like HTC Alltel, we find all of HTCs phones very attractive. We were a bit overwhelmed to find that the home screen of the phone had seven pages for the menu. You don’t really need this much for the menu. You scroll back and forth by swiping your finger left or right. You can add shortcuts and widgets and you can change the wall paper of the home screen. There are a couple of widgets and you get more on the Android Market but we were really pleased with the widgets that were there in the phone like Twitter widget which give a live stream of tweets. We have been familiar with ‘scenes’ feature of HTC phones, it just like ‘themes’  [...]

Samsung i8910 Omnia HD – Sexy Multimedia Baby

thumbnail
Omnia HD is one of the phones which has those out of the box looks and makes heads turn. But the phone is unlocked which means it will be a bit costly and will burn a hole in your pocket. But if you have the money or you are a gadget enthusiast this purchase will not make your regret. To give a brief preview, the phone has HD video playback and recording, 8 MP camera, a revamped TouchWiz interface and lots of storage space. The phone has the same features of Nokia’s N97 and it will lock horn when it comes to market sales. The display of the Omnia HD is 3.7 inch big AMOLED display which has capacitive touch screen interface and you get 360X640 resolutions with 16 million colors. AMOLED is better than LCD since it consumes low power, the video/image quality is better and you get better viewing angles. The screen can also be clearly seen in bright sunlight, something which overwhelms the LCD screen. Capacitive touch screen is better than standard  [...]

Samsung Comeback SGH-T559 – Comeback From What?

thumbnail
Comeback SGH-T559 has those geek looks, which will be clear from the exterior of the phone. The outside screen is tiny 1.0 inch PMOLED display which has 65k colors. There is a secondary screen on the inside and this one is just for quick access. On this screen you can adjust the backlight time, brightness, color theme and dialing display which color of the background and the color and type of the dialing font. For the display you can change the wallpaper and also the alert and ring tones. You can always buy more through the built in phone browser. Below the display is the numeric keypad which has two soft keys, camera key, square navigation button with OK button in the middle, talk and end keys and the back key. The end key is also the power button for the phone. On the navigation button the up and down buttons are shortcuts for contact list and call log. The left and right buttons are short cuts for audio postcard and new SMS. They numeric  [...]

Nokia Surge 6790- Great For Social Networking And Music

thumbnail
Nokia’s handsets mostly come unlocked here and hence they are quite pricey. Nokia is the biggest handset maker in the world but doesn’t have a good hold here in the US. But they continue to offer us masterpieces one after the other and we are still drooling on the power full N97. Nokia Surge 6790 is 2.4 inch QVGA display, it gives 16 million colors output and has a resolution of 320X240 pixels. The screen is good and text is easily readable but we have seen better screen smart phones in the market. Videos didn’t seem that lively on the screen, plus the screen attracts a lot of smudges and fingerprints. The Surge has a built in accelerometer which changes the display from portrait to landscape mode when you turn the phone around. We found the accelerometer quick to switch modes. The landscape mode is preferable when watching videos since you get  [...]

HP iPaq Glisten – A Basic Smart Phone

thumbnail
Computer and printer giant HP hasn’t made new phones for us since a long time. However they are here now with a touch screen smart phone for business users. HP iPaq Glisten is a typical smart phone and does deliver on the most used applications which a phone of this type should have but we were not much impressed with the overall features of the handset. HP has used AMOLED screen for the display which is now preferred by manufacturers owing to its low power consumption, better viewing angles and better picture quality. But we thought that with this tiny display the AMOLED screen is wasted. You will pay more for AMOLED screen mobile phones but you won’t get worth for your money since it is too tiny for watching videos. We feel AMOLED screen is for phones like Samsung Omnia HD which has a huge screen. Glisten display is just 2.5 inch and doesn’t do too much to exploit the capabilities of the AMOLED screen because the resolution of 240X320 is too low. But the screen is vibrant and  [...]

Pharos Traveler GPS 127- High Price And Low Performance

thumbnail
Smart phones have now become a tight market with manufacturers increasing the number of features and decreasing the price. It is really tough for new comers now to enter and survive in this already crowded market. So manufacturers are coming out with new dough to enhance their sales and the latest is GPS software inclusion in these devices. The phone comes unlocked which means that it will come at a bigger price tag. We thought the handset was pretty good for navigation purposes but fails to compete with smart phone giants like HTC. With a price like this slapped on to it, we would recommend you to go for Touch Cruise from HTC which gives you even better features for smart phones with GPS and comes at a less price. The display of the screen is 2.5 inch TFT LCD touch screen which we found was a bit low while navigating through maps. It has a 320x240-pixel resolution and 65,000 colors which makes images, text look clear on the screen. The  [...]

RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 Review – An Entry Level Blackberry Device

thumbnail
RIM BlackBerry Curve 8520 is an entry level phone from Blackberry and we thought this was just a trimmed version of 8900. It doesn’t have GPS and high resolution that the latter had but offers the core features inside are the same and so is the performance. The two features are also sacrificed but give you a lower cost product. The cost of this phone is $129.99 with a two year contract but if you shell out $20 more you will get the 8900 which has more features. But the most amusing part is Walmart is giving out this phone for $48.88 with a 2 year agreement. The resolution of the 2.46 inch display has 320X240 pixels and has support for 65,000 colors. The smaller resolution is bit of a let down considering this is a smart phone and it shows its inferiority when you see images and videos. But apart from that the display  [...]

HTC Touch Pro2 Review – Excellant On Messaging And Multimedia

thumbnail
HTC touch 2 has given us great phones in the past and they have been super hits in the market too. They have great touch screen, good music player, camera and lots of other features that you look in a camera. The design of HTC phones is almost more or less the same (except for the HTC Snap) but we never get enough of those sleek sexy devices. We found this to be one of the best phones ever from HTC but all this also comes at a slightly higher price. The phone is 4.57 inches tall, 0.68 inch deep, 2.33 inch wide and weighs about 6.6 ounces. The phone is comfortable to hold in hand and the slider layout is awesome but it makes the phone a bit thick. The display WVGA touch screen 3.6 inch big and has a 480x800-pixel resolution, 65k color. The display size is awesome and you will get what you expect which is great video quality for playing games and videos. The screen is bright and vibrant, great for viewing text and photographs. The bigger display screen would also serve you better  [...]
