Nokia N900 Review – A Power Full Multi Media Device

thumbnail
N900 is the first device to feature three digit model number for the N series and it looks really promising device. The phone is more of a internet tablet device and less of a phone. But pretty much all the high end phones are becoming like this, N900 is the first device to openly come out as a power full mobile multimedia and internet device. N900 runs on Maemo platform which is Linux based and it is great for multi tasking and has lots of customization options. N900 is nothing like previous N series devices that Nokia has produced. It looks like a mini TV from the outside and has no buttons on the surface of the phone. You will find the Nokia N900 placed sideways advertisements and pictures. We welcomed this new maneuver to make the phone look different. When we were using it, we realized that most of the applications of the phone can be used only with the phone in landscape mode. Phone dialer is perhaps the only app which can be used in portrait mode. We were not so much  [...]

Nokia 1661- A Low End Basic Phone

thumbnail
We have tested quite a lot of basic phones before this and this is the big daddy of basic phones. It has nothing but calling and messaging and indeed nothing else. While this phone is good for people who are not so enthusiastic about technology, we really do wonder if there will be people for such phones. Even if you are on a stiff budget or not so fond of mobile phones we recommend you to buy a phone that has features like music player and camera. Maybe you will fall in love with them later. But this is a prepaid phone from T-mobile for people who need to pay only when they are calling. It is for people who rarely make phone calls. This is a bit boring phone for technology enthusiasts like us The display of the Nokia 1661 is 1.8 inch big and it gives a pretty low resolution of 160x128 pixels or 65k colors. You can change only the backlight and for the  [...]

LG Crystal GD900 -Unlocked- A Phone With Two Touch Screens

thumbnail
LG Crystal GD900 is a beautiful phone but once you get used to it and the novelty wears off, you will wish it had better performance. It will make heads turn when you flaunt it on your college or office campus but then on the inside you will realize that it is not as good. LG has taken pains for the phone to look good and haven’t cared much about the performance inside. We couldn’t get enough of the looks though; we were staring at it for long time when it landed in our test centers. The display of the LG Crystal GD900 is 3 inch, 800 x 480 pixels resolution and support for 16.2 million colors. The display is as big as iPhone and performs equally well. The text is clear, the photos and videos look lively on the phone. Beneath the LG Crystal GD900 is a keypad that we seldom see in a mobile phone. It is a touch sensitive keypad which lets you scroll through your web pages even with a swipe on the finger. Yes! Can do swiping even on the  [...]

RIM Blackberry Curve 8900 – Best Blackberry Device To Date

thumbnail
Blackberry is known to make good messaging phones and it has good features like QWERTY keyboard for messaging. While it might look little boring, college students and tech freaks might be coy over the design of the phone, Blackberry says that it is made so to make messaging easier. These phones continue to be the favorite of business men who need to access e-mails on the go. The display of the RIM Blackberry Curve 8900 is 2.4 inch TFT LCD which gives a resolution of 480x360 pixels. we thought the screen size and the resolution is a bit low and you will have to scroll a bit more when viewing web pages or reading text documents. The small screen is maybe due to the space hogged by the full QWERTY keyboard in the bottom. It is not a touch screen device but the display of the RIM Blackberry Curve 8900 is one of the best even considering that it is just  [...]

Pantech Impact – A Phone With Lots Of Messaging Features

thumbnail
Pantech is out with a messaging device and this time they have done it with style. The phone has two displays; the one on the lid is 1.5 inch big and shows you signal strength, date, time, battery life. The display doesn’t have a photo caller ID but it is very sharp and you can see it clearly in the dark. Beneath the screen is the touch sensitive keypad which is very responsive. It has all the buttons which a numeric keypad normally has like call and call end buttons, two soft keys, and navigational button which has only the up and down direction functions and the number buttons. All this hard ware gives us more features than we expect from an external display – you can make calls and receive them, you can access the address book, music player, messaging menu and you can access the recent calls list. Some might find these functions too basic but  [...]

Samsung Gravity 2 SGH-T469 – An Inexpensive Messaging Phone

thumbnail
When the Samsung first bought the phone named ‘gravity’ we didn’t know why it is named so and we still don’t. But the p Samsung Gravity was low on resources, it had a awful 1.3 mega pixel camera and lacked GPS and 3G. Samsung is out with the new edition of the phone and things have been made better in this one. The display of the Samsung Gravity 2  is 2.3 inch big when measured diagonally and you get a resolution of 240x320 pixels. It supports 262,000 colors. We weren’t that happy with the screen size and resolution, it could have been bigger and better but then remember that this is mid range phone and not a high end one. The display is good and you will have no problems reading the text or watching photos on the screen. On the display you can change the backlight time, brightness, dialing display, greeting for the home screen. Beneath the display there are two soft buttons, a unique circular four way navigation button, the call and call end buttons, clear button and  [...]

HTC Snap – Alltel – A Smartphone For Messaging

thumbnail
HTC is not known to making phones like this, we miss the old design of touch screen and a few buttons underneath them and we would like to request HTC to get that design back. The display of the HTC Snap is 2.4 inch big and has a resolution of about 320 x 240 pixels which are both much less compared to what we have known HTC for. But the screen is bright and text and photos are clear on this screen. The screen makes up for a very small space on the top of the phone and rest is all hogged by the QWERTY keyboard and the buttons above it. The keyboard has taken a lot of space on the HTC Snap and hence it is quite spacey. The keyboard is quite easy to type, the number buttons are highlighted in white color against the black keys. You can type and browse for a lot of time on this keyboard, it is not all cramped. Above the keyboard there are the call and call end keys, home button, back button and two soft buttons. There is a four way direction  [...]

Beyond E-Tech Duet D8 – A Cheap iPhone Look-A-Like

thumbnail
D8 is the successor of the D888 which also could take two SIM cards at a time. While we like this concept we used the phone to find out that it is terribly bad at the features that it is supposed to serve and looks like a typical cheap Chinese phone. The display of the phone is 2.8 inch big and will give a resolution of 320X240 which is pretty low considering the size of the screen. The phone is also touch screen based so we would have liked a bigger screen because it is the only input device in absence of a numeric keypad or QWERTY keyboard. The display is nothing great and the big icons on the menu will certainly turn you off. Smaller icons would have accommodated more items on the menu but then the low resolution comes in the way. You can change the wallpaper, greetings, screen saver and function settings on the display. Using the touch screen is quite frustrating and we kept wishing for a numeric keypad. Sometimes it didn’t register  [...]
