Sony Ericsson Satio review – Packed with multimedia features

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson Satio appeared just as a concept at Mobile World Congress and it has now reached the market as a final product. This handset is offered unlocked thus it will make a big hole in your pocket with its huge price tag. The biggest feature of the phone is the 12.1 megapixel camera. If the resolution doesn't make you drool then the plethora of options that the camera offers certainly will. We, as cell phone reviewers, have never seen so many features offered in a camera phone. There is also the music player, Sony's traditional Walkman, to keep you entertained while you are on the move. Sony has been known for its stellar sound quality on both the its MP3 players and cell phones. The display of this phone is 3.5 inches big and you get a resolution of 360x640 pixels. Images look very nice on this display and the text is quite easy to read too. The built in accelerometer automatically changes the orientation of the screen when you tilt the device.  [...]

Palm Pixi Plus Review– Small display and keyboard

thumbnail
Palm Pre Plus finally has a companion for AT&T with the Palm Pixi Plus. This small device does not have lots of power just like Verizon’s version. The feature set is quite nice and the price of this product is $49.99. You have to sign a two years service agreement and this phone is geared more towards people who are using smartphone for the first time. The device is small so it fits in your pocket and hand quite easily. There are a few trade offs though. For instance, the touch screen is trimmed down to 2.63 inches which is really small as compared to what we have these days. You will struggle a bit to view Web pages and the text content on this display. On the bright side, the phone supports pinch to zoom feature so this will help a bit. The keyboard of the Palm Pixi Plus is a bit cramped and you will need some time to get used to it. The phone comes with reference manual, USB cord, and AC charger. There is no Touchstone dock offered  [...]

Garminfone (T-Mobile)

thumbnail
Before this, we saw the Garmin-Asus's first phone and we thought it was a total disaster. A GPS maker had made a cell phone and if you are going to use it just as a GPS device, it is ok but as a cellphone, it is horrible. This is a second attempt by the company; it is available through T-Mobile. The phone will be available in stores from June 9th and it costs $199.99 with a two year agreement and after $50 mail in rebate. This phone is now better than its predecessor because Nuvifone's issues have been taken care of here. The handset now run on Android platform and sports a sexy design. This device is now equally good as both navigator and smarphone. It may not be as good as T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide but if you travel a lot, then it will be hard for you to ignore this handset. Garminfone has a 3.5 inch HVGA capacitive touch screen which gives a resolution of 320x480 pixels. We would have liked a bigger display considering the feature set of this  [...]

Samsung mobile phone accessories – Are you game for it?

thumbnail
Samsung is a big wig when it comes to making smartphones. We have had loads of cell phones from them in our labs for review and our readers have been asking about Samsung mobile phone accessories so here we are, writing about them. There are various accessories available for cell phones and it all depends on your budget or you willingness to dig deep in to the pocket. If you really love your phone, you will go to any heights to keep them safe or decorate them with accessories. The first among Samsung mobile phone accessories that is worth mentioning is the battery. Batteries die after a certain period of time no matter how careful you are with them. A battery has limited charging cycles and is made to stay alive for a certain period of time, like two or three years. The best thing about Samsung phones is that their batteries are user replaceable so you can change them manually once they give up. Apple’s iPhone,  [...]

LG Fathom – Feature rich phone

thumbnail
Windows 7 is already announced by Microsoft but they are still making Windows Mobile 6.5 phones for the market. The latest device to join the 6.5 OS family is LG Fathom. It runs on 6.5.3 version of the OS and it has a dual more CDMA/GSM chipset. This means that you can put in an international SIM card when traveling abroad. Because of this feature, we would recommend this phone more to globe trotters. The handset has a resistive touch screen display which doesn’t feel as good as iPhone. However, there is a full fledged QWERTY keyboard, an alternative to the touch screen display. This phone costs $149.99 and you have to sign a two year contract after $100 mail in rebate. LG Fathom has a 3.2 inch resistive touch screen and it gives you a resolution of 800x480 pixels. LG hasn’t given us a capacitive touch screen for the display so don’t expect iPhone like screen. However, we did appreciate that there is an alignment wizard for improving the tap  [...]

Samsung SGH-a107 GoPhone – ultra basic phone

thumbnail
Cell phones are improving day by day but there is a section of people who don’t seem to care. All they want is a simple phone that can call other people and send text messages. Samsung SGH-a107 GoPhone is a phone that is made to cater to the entry level users. This is one of the most basic phones we have ever come across in our labs. There is no camera, Bluetooth, or music player. Bluetooth is a omission, we see it on all the phone these days, even the cheapest ones. This phone is yours for $29.99 and there are no contract obligations. Samsung SGH-a107 GoPhone has a 1.43 inch display with support for 65,000 colors. The resolution is quite low and images look a bit blocky. But this isn’t unexpected in an entry level phone. The text would have been more legible if the display was a tad bigger. You can adjust the greeting message, idle screen display and wallpaper of this phone. Below the Samsung SGH-a107 GoPhone’s display, there is a basic  [...]

Pantech Breeze II review – Entry level phone

thumbnail
Not every one out there is crazy about high end smartphones. Some just need a basic handset to make calls and send occasional text messages. Pantech mostly focuses on such handsets but it has spawned occasional high end phones like Matrix Pro and Matrix. Pantech Breeze II is a successor to Pantech Breeze which we saw a few years ago. This is a basic flip phone for people who are looking for low end handset. This phone is yours for $19.99 and you have to enter a two year service agreement with the service provider, AT&T. Being the clamshell phone, the Pantech Breeze II has two displays. The external screen is 1.38 inches big and has resolution of 128x128 pixels along with 65k color support. It only gives basics like date, time and caller ID. There are three LED light beneath the external display for calls, new messages and low battery alert. All this can be checked without opening the flap. On the inside, the Pantech Breeze II has a 2.2 inch display with support for 260k colors  [...]

LG Crystal GD900 – With a transparent glass keypad

thumbnail
Sexy looks have officially taken over ease of use, and a cell phone has to look sexy if it is to compete in the stiff gadget market. LG are desperate to do something out of the box with this cell phone and we were stunned at the transparent keypad of this handset. The keypad can also be used as a touch sensitive controller. For scrolling through the items on the phone, all you have to do is swipe your finger on it. This is just like a laptop’s trackpad. You can also ‘pinch’ on the keypad to zoom in and out of photos. All this seems too good to be true. We don’t know what the secret is but we surely must congratulate LG for this. We really liked the LG Crystal GD900’s touch sensitive keypad. You can swipe on the keypad and look at the screen. Your view isn’t blocked while you swipe either. The phone has a slider interface, which means you can convinientaly slide the keypad out of sight when you don’t need it. The keypad supports  [...]
