LG may bring its Optimus phone to US under the name LG Vortex

thumbnail
Android phones from LG are very rare in the US. They sell more in Asia but these phones are slowly coming in limelight here in the US. Our sources say that LG might bring the LG Optimus, its much hyped handset to the US by the name Vortex. These two phones are very much similar in terms of design. The only difference is that Vortex will have a Verizon logo on the front since it is covered by this service provider. LG Vortex, according to our sources, will have a 600 MHz processor which is slower as compared to 1 GHz processor found on most high end smartphones. However, 600 Mhz chip is not that bad either, you can still do multitasking on it easily. The display size of this phone will be 3.2 inches big which is big enough for watching video clips or movies when you travel in a bus or train. Other features on the phone include GPS, Bluetooth and FM radio. There are people who are very much fond of FM radio, they listen to it when they are bored with  [...]

Samsung Eternity II SGH-A597 – Dated device

thumbnail
Samsung Eternity II SGH-A597 is the successor to Samsung Eternity which came out about a year and half ago and I wonder why the manufacturer took so long to make a sequel. I was also disappointed to see that the newer model didn’t have any new features as compared to the original model. This is not a smartphone, it is just a messaging phone made for people who like typing long e-mails. However, I won’t recommend the Samsung Eternity II to messaging enthusiasts because it doesn’t have a physical keyboard. The dialer interface of the Samsung Eternity II SGH-A597 has a standard design, the buttons have large number. However, the QWERTY keyboard feels a bit cramped. I did have a problem typing on it because the keys were rather small for my fingers. You will also have to switch to different keyboards for symbols and numbers. There is handwriting recognition too but the screen is a bit small for it. On the bright side, the main menu is better and it can be customized with menu icons.  [...]

LG GS170 – Inexpensive entry level phone

thumbnail
T-Mobile has given us three LG phones till now the dLite, the Sentio, and now, the LG GS170. The dLite and Sentio had a really good multimedia design with a cool design. But the GS170 is more of a basic phone. You still get features like Bluetooth, speakerphone, VGA camera and the call quality is decent too. This phone is offered free of cost along with a two year service agreement. LG GS170 is a typical basic rectangular phone with a simple plastic body. The handset is 0.7 inch thick, 1.9 inches wide and 3.6 inches long. This handset is compact and slim with rounded corners and smooth tapered sides. The surface is made up of soft touch material which makes the phone easy to hold. The device isn’t much heavy either at just 2.8 ounces. The body is red colored with some grey shades on the sides. LG GS170 is a flip phone and there is an external display on the lid. It is 1.04 inches big with resolution  [...]

Dell Aero – Sluggish and outdated

thumbnail
Dell Aero is a seriously outdated smartphone; it runs of Android 1.5 OS and the phone has a very sluggish interface. There are no buttons on the surface of the phone and everything is moved on the sides which makes it very frustrating to use. The phone doesn’t have a headphone jack but Dell gives an audio adapter with the handset for plugging in any standard 3.5 mm earphones. Dell has put its own user interface on the Aero and I feel the company tried a bit too much in making it customizable. It looks very simple initially. The main home screen gives you basic information like weather, time and date. There is also a big notification box at the bottom. There are additional panels and for accessing them, you just have to swipe your finger through it. There is a stagnant toolbar on every screen’s top which gives you shortcuts for the phone app, e-mail, messaging and browser. There are ten panels in all but you are limited in what you can add on these panels. Pressing the menu button  [...]

LG dLite – Big phone

thumbnail
LG dLite is a bit different from other clamshell phones. It is bigger than your standard size and there are a lot of feminine features here which might not go well with the men. On the bright side, the bigger phone gives you a bigger display at 2.8 inches along with support for 262k colors. You get a resolution of 240x400 pixels which is not bad in such a phone. Below the display, there is the navigation array which is made up of two soft keys, round toggle with OK button in the middle, browser key and task manager key. All the buttons are round. The four buttons on the toggle can be used for shortcuts to new text message, mobile backup, new audio postcard and recent call history. The OK button of the toggle takes you to T-Mobile’s MyFaves interface where in your can add contacts. The navigation array is followed by the standard Send, End and Back button and then you have the number keypad which is separated in three rows. Each of the  [...]

Samsung Gravity 3 – Improved on the style front

thumbnail
This phone completes the trilogy of Samsung Gravity series; this phone is by T-Mobile and it comes with plenty of visual effects and production value. But overall, there is not a lot as compared to the previous model. I am not saying that this phone is not better than the Samsung Gravity 2 but it is just that I’m used to seeing better when it comes to successors. It does have all the features that I liked in the previous model like two megapixel camera, GPS capabilities, and 3G. This mobile phone is quite similar to the previous version in terms of specs. Samsung decided to pay more attention to the looks instead of adding more features and they have made this a great messaging phone. This phone will cost you $50 and you will have to sign a two year service agreement with the service provider. Samsung Gravity 3 is definitely a sexy phone. It has a sleek black frame with metallic, glossy gray bezel along with metallic aqua accents.  [...]

Nokia announces Nokia 5250 for music enthusiasts

thumbnail
nnounced the new Nokia 5250 and this phone is targeted at music enthusiasts. This phone is the successor to the 5235/5230 phones which did quite well in the market. The manufacturer is also offering Ovi Music Unlimited along with this handset in selected regions. Nokia 5250 is a touch screen phone and the design is quite similar to previous touch device from this manufacturer. There are very few physical buttons and you have to use the touch screen for communicating with the phone. The size of the display is a bit small at 2.8 inches. Most music based phones have three inch or bigger sizes since they are extensively used for watching movies and videos. However, we are quite happy that the screen has a 16:9 aspect ration. The screen gives a resolution of 640x360 pixels which is quite good for this size. This resolution will give you a lot of space on the display for browsing the Web or working around with the documents. Nokia 5250 runs on Symbian^1  [...]

Nokia 2680 – Modest features

thumbnail
It is really surprising for us tech enthusiasts to see that low end phones like these are still there in a market that is do minated by smartphones. But then, not everyone needs a super fast cell phone. I recently conducted a survey and found that most people don’t even use all the features of the phone. Hence it makes no sense in buying a high end mobile phone as it will be a waste of money. Nokia 2680 is one such low end cell phone which is pretty modest on features. Except for Bluetooth and speakerphone, there are no advanced features on the phone. There is a camera on the back but the quality is so poor that you’d never use it. The features are all slashed in order to give you a basic and entry level phone at a really low price. Nokia 2680 has a really small one inch screen and the resolution too is really small at 128x160 pixels. Things are pretty miserable and cramped on this display but this is not unexpected in a low end cell  [...]
