Samsung invests money in firms developing 3D tablets and cellphones

thumbnail
Samsung said that they are investing 15 million dollars in MasterImage 3D, it is a company which makes 3D technology for the movie theaters. This firm is also planning on making PCs, tablets and smartphones that show 3D content on their screens. Samsung said that they will be working on making bigger auto-stereoscopic displays which mean theater like screens through which 3D images can be seen without the need for glasses. Younghoon Lee, the CEO of MasterImage 3D said that they are delighted about Samsung’s investment. He added that such kind of financial support shows that 3D has a bright future in the world of electronics. Indeed a lot is expected from 3D technology in the near future. There are the 3D TVs which are selling really well in the market despite being high priced. There have been a few complaints about giddiness but it is nothing serious and 3D technology continues to be enjoyed by a lot of people around the world. 3D has come in to  [...]

Samsung F480 Tocco – A mid-range smartphone

thumbnail
Samsung F480 Tocco is a touch screen phone which feels really comfortable in the hand. The phone isn’t too heavy in your pocket and you will hardly feel it there. The front surface of the phone is dominated by a 2.8 inches touch screen and it adds to the aesthetic quality of the phone. You can customize it in a number of ways for suiting your tastes. Samsung F480 Tocco is really easy to use and you will get a good hang for it in a couple of days. There is haptic feedback for the buttons which means that the device vibrates when you touch the buttons in order to tell you that the touches are registered. In my lab testing, the touch screen was very good and I didn’t have to touch the screen too hard for the touches to register. Good touch screens aren’t really rare these days but still the manufacturer should be congratulated for this. I have just one gripe, the space button is located too close to the OK button and this resulted in a few accidental nudges while  [...]

Samsung SGH U900 Soul – Good sliding mechanism

thumbnail
Samsung loves to make slider phones and hence it is not really a surprise that they chose make a phone like Samsung SGH U900 Soul. A lot of their slider phones have generic, flimsy design along with unimaginative controls but I was delighted see that the manufacturer took a finer approach for this one. The mobile phone gives a firm and solid feel in the hand and the slider mechanism is really sturdy. The cell phone clicks on to its place in both the ends and I could easily close and open the phone with one hand. My only wish here was the presence of tiny thumb grip. You need to place the thumb on the display for opening the phone. The screen is slippery and also attracts a lot of fingerprints easily. For alternatives, you can use tapered bottom on the phone’s end for gripping. Just like most of the slider devices you there, this one is really thin at 4.16 inches x 1.94 inches x 0.51 inch. It is quite lightweight at 3.95 ounces which makes it easy to carry around in the pocket. I also  [...]

Samsung F330 – Smooth slider

thumbnail
Samsung F330 is like a music variant of the Samsung business phones; the specifications are largely the same. But there are also some differences about the design and user interface. This handset is sold at a reasonable price considering the features that it has to offer. I think that this phone is not made as an alternative to any particular cell phone in the market. Samsung just made it to widen its product range. Samsung F330 has a slider form factor and this design is getting increasingly popular in recent times. The design is quite similar to Samsung E840, there is a mirror plated front panel along with touch sensitive buttons but the device has a face of its own and it looks advantageous and interesting. At first sight, the device looks expensive, stylish and brilliant. The combination of glossy white plastic and mirror plated surface gives a very nice impression and I think females will buy this device more than the guys. Samsung F330 exterior  [...]

Samsung G400 – With external touch screen

thumbnail
Samsung G400 has a stylish and beautiful appearance and it really catches the eye. The body is made up of polished metal and it gives a classy feel in the hands. But I was disappointed to see that the size isn’t compact and the handset won’t fit well in a pocket or female hand. One more drawback about the phone is that it is hard to open and doesn’t have any comfortable areas where you can put your hand in. On the bright side, the phone is quite comfortable for talking. Both screens of the Samsung G400 are quite identical. They are 2.22 inches big with resolution of 240x320 pixels. These displays support 262k colors. The external display is touch screen based and it is activated only when you touch it with a finger. This screen doesn’t get touched accidentally if it is in your pocket which is a good thing. Both the displays reproduce the colors well in dim light conditions and are unusable in direct sunlight. Apart from that, the internal screen looks too small  [...]

Samsung Evergreen SGH-A667 (AT&T) – For environmental conscious

thumbnail
Samsung Evergreen SGH-A667 is a affordable messaging phone from AT&T and it is a ‘green’ device. The handset is made up of 70 percent recycled materials and the outside packaging is made up of 80 percent recycled post consumer paper. Also the makers have used soy ink as opposed to standard one which is petroleum based. User manual is on the disc inside. These steps are similar to what Samsung took for other environmentally conscious phones like Blue Earth, Restore and Reclaim. Samsung Evergreen SGH-A667 costs $29.99 and you have to sign a two year contract with AT&T, the service provider. This is a 3G capable phone with good interface perks. The feature set is midrange and I would recommend this device if you are looking for a good value for money messaging phone. It is meant for people who text a lot but there is no touch screen. Features like slide-out responsive QWERTY keyboard, AT&T's extra services, like AT&T Music and roomy dial pad will appeal  [...]

Samsung SGH-a187 GoPhone – Basic phone for messaging enthusiasts

thumbnail
Samsung SGH-a187 is one of the most beautiful GoPhones in the market at $79.99. According to me, the price is good for a phone without any contract obligations. This is also a good choice if you are looking for a messaging phone with QWERTY keyboard. Apart from multimedia and text messaging, this as go pay phone has instant messaging, music player, Web access, e-mail client, and music player. There is also a memory card slot which can take up to 16 GB cards. The features are really nice on paper and this Samsung SGH phone candy bar design feels good in the hand and comfortable on the ear as well. I just had one complaint that the keystrokes of the keyboard didn’t translate on the display. However, this is not a big problem and I would recommend this phone for GoPhone customers. I liked the weight, look and the subtle curves of the Samsung SGH-a187. The Prussian blue color of the as go pay phone looked very  [...]

Samsung Focus (AT&T) – with Windows 7 OS

thumbnail
Samsung Focus is the first Windows 7 phone to launch here in the US. This phone hasn’t been launched yet; it will arrive on 8th of November and the carrier sent me a model for review. This phone looks and feels very familiar to the Galaxy S series devices. It is an all touch screen phone having; the surface is dominated by a four inch super AMOLED display. It is as gorgeous as some of the best Samsung smartphones that I have previously seen in my labs. Also noteworthy is that the phone is pretty slim and light. Like other Galaxy S models, this phone is plasticky and slick than what I would have liked but the plastic body doesn’t make the phone look cheap. The main difference between the Galaxy S phones and the Samsung Focus is that the latter is running Windows 7 OS. The new operating system comes with a slew of new features and I liked them a lot. The user interface has been revamped here; the start screen consists of live tiles which  [...]
