Sony Ericsson Xperia Play – Part Smartphone and Part Console

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is a global GSM smartphone that comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, slideout game pad, GPS, Wi-Fi, 5-megapixel camera and front facing camera. It is a part smartphone and part console and its hardware is quite impressive. However its inconsistent and confusing software makes the experience joyless, making it one of the porky Android phones. The Xperia Play is an important step forward in mobile gaming, but it suffers from main hardware limitations. It is a dedicated gaming smartphone that comes with gyroscopes and dual core processors that create a satisfying and convincing gameplay on cellphones. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play was conceptualized as a cellphone gaming device. It comes with latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, Snapdragon 1GHz processor, Bluetooth, four-inch display,  [...]

Sony Ericsson W595i – No flash for the camera

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson W595i is a slider phone having a 3.2 megapixel camera and it is the successor to the W580i which was really popular in the market. The specs are upgraded here and this sweetens the deal further. The cost of the phone is £225 without any contract obligations. This phone has a lot of features carried over from the predecessor and they look like siblings. The position of the camera has been changed, the USB port is moved and the shape of the enclosure too is a bit different. However, if you are looking for some ground breaking changes on the phone, you will be disappointed. Sony Ericsson W595i is still pretty decent with a good layout of the keys. It is easier to type text messages on other phones but practice of about one week will make things alright. My biggest complaint here is that there is no 3.5 mm headphones jack and this is really disappointing since this is a music centric phone. If you have the W580i, I won’t  [...]

Sony Ericsson K770i – For the youth

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson K770i is a CyberShot phone but there is more to this phone than just taking good pictures. I loved the feature set here including music player. This phone is offered for free on 3 along with some contracts. It is also available SIM free or pay as you go for £200. My Sony Ericsson K770i review model came from 3 and it had purple striking color scheme which is not available on other carriers. However, this handset looks really good even without the purple color. Metallic strip keypad on the device gives it a business look and the device feels well proportioned in the hand. Sony Ericsson K770i is a cyber shot phone and you’d expect the camera to be better than what you’d find on other phones. In my tests, it didn’t disappoint all. The 3.2 megapixel shooter is activated when you slide open the cover on the phone’s rear. There is also a shutter button on the phone’s right edge for starting the camera. Sony  [...]

Sony Ericsson K330 – Stylish cell phone

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson K330 is a very stylish mobile phone and it is very user friendly too. This phone comes in two different color options - Black & Green and Black & Gold. Both of them are glossy and look sleek and stylish. This gadget is from the K series of cell phones and other members of this family include SE K630i, SE K770i, and SE K660i. The screen is 1.7 inches big and has a resolution of 128x160 pixels with support for 65k colors. This makes viewing colorful and clear. The phone has a candy bar design with dimensions of 100mm by 45mm by 12mm and it weighs 75 grams. The K330 sat very comfortably in my palm and you can easily put it in jeans pocket without any problems. I was impressed by the talk time as well – a single charge gives seven hours of talk time and the standby time is 300 hours. Sony Ericsson K330 has a  [...]

Sony Ericsson W715 – Cool Multimedia Phone

thumbnail
The features, build and look of the Sony Ericsson W715 are quite similar to its predecessor, the W705 which I reviewed some time ago. But there in one distinct advantage on the W715 – location or to be precise, location finding. This is the latest Walkman offering from this manufacturer to have A-GPS satellite location technology built-in, this gives the phone a variety of position based services like Sat Nav gadgetry and spot-on route planning. The design team of the Sony Ericsson W715 have made the phone look elegant with the same brushed angular aluminum gorgeousness which we first saw on the W890i and W880i. The chassis has been slimmed down with the slider design. The main attraction on Sony Ericsson W715 phone is not its looks though. I was pleased to see the latest version of Walkman software inside with features like Wi-Fi, HSPA 3G high-speed mobile upload and download capability, and four gigabytes memory card bundled. Apart from that, there  [...]

Sony Ericsson G700 – Sturdy phone

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson G700 isn’t really attractive but when you take the device in the hand, it is a different story. It feels very sturdy in the hand. I really liked everything about it right from its keypad to its 2.4 inch touchscreen QVGA LCD screen to its video camera on the front. It is all tightly integrated in order to maximize the real estate on the front. It is quite remarkable how the manufacturer manages to fit stubby and nice buttons on the keypad. On the back, the Sony Ericsson G700 has a ribbed pattern casing which feels quite nice to touch. This might be just for aesthetic reasons but at least it doesn’t attract a lot of fingerprints like the display. Also, the phone has onboard speakers, a three megapixel camera and LED photolights. Sony Ericsson G700 phone has a proprietary connector on the left side close to the memory card slot. There is an LED light indicator which lights when you charging the phone and green when you get an incoming  [...]

Sony Ericsson R306 – Budget clamshell phone

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson R306 is a budget clamshell phone having FM/AM radio but apart from that, there isn’t much here. The handset has bulky size and squarish contours which gives it a retro look. the grey and silver color scheme is no-nonsense and it is free from any touch sensitive surfaces and jeweled embellishments. When you hold it horizontally, the Sony Ericsson R306 looks like a radio. The speakers on right and left side are divided by silver panel which incorporates monochrome screen. The screen shows clock, radio stations, and incoming calls. Below this, there are preset buttons which give you quick access to the stations and there are up/down buttons for channel scroll. Flicking the Sony Ericsson R306 open is a bit arduous owing to the lid’s weight. There is more grey and silver on the keypad. Circular number buttons are spaced quite well and there are silver raised ridges which makes it easy for distinguishing between the buttons by feel. The  [...]

Sony Ericsson W760a – Unique attractive looks

thumbnail
Sony Ericsson W760a has a classic slider design and it will surely catch a lot of eyes as you are flaunting it down the street. The clean lines and the curved edges add to the phone’s aesthetic appeal and I think that the manufacturer has worked really hard to put some unique style touches on the handset. I liked the textured material on the phone’s bottom with metal shiny screen above the lens of the camera. This device is available in three color options – intense red, rocky silver and fancy black. I got a black model in my lab which had a very pretty yellow stripe running across the cover of the battery compartment. It gives a faint bumblebee impression to the handset but I still liked the overall look of the phone. Sony Ericsson W760a is 0.6 inch deep, 1.9 inches wide, 4.1 inches tall and weighs about 3.5 ounces. It is compact, lightweight and feels comfortably solid in the hand. I must appreciate the sturdy  [...]
