The Nokia 7510 Supernova comes with replaceable back and front covers in three colors: espresso brown, fatal red and emerald green. It is 3.6 inches tall, 1.8 inches wide and 0.7 inch deep and weighs 4.4 ounces. The cell phone is covered with soft-touch and smooth material that provides comfortable feel while holding in hand. Its shiny and silver interior resembles that of the Nokia 6263.

Inside Dope:

The famous U.S. carrier – T-Mobile has announced the Shadow and the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 with the launch of the Nokia 7510 Supernova. You can get the 7510 for $49 with service agreement and $199 for its unlocked version. It has attractive folder design and features Wi-Fi, brilliant display, and satisfactory call quality. However, its navigation array and keypad are a bit slippery. The calls are also suffered with low volume. It is important to mention here that the T-Mobile is not using the Supernova name with its version. You can customize the 7510 Supernova with included back and front covers. Like Nokia 6131, the 7510 Supernova has a button mounted on hinge to open the phone. This button is flush inside the surface and need a firm press for secure opening.

The external monochrome display has 128×160 pixels resolution and remains invisible when backlight is turned off. However, the clock shows bright and large numbers. You can adjust the backlight time for external display. The camera lens with flash sits above the external display, but there is no self-portrait mirror. The volume rocker and 2.5mm headset jack are located on the right spine; while the charger jack and the mini-USB port are on the left spine. We will prefer the manufacturer to include a standard 3.5mm headset jack.

2.2-inch display of the Nokia 7510 Supernova has 320×240 pixels resolution that supports 16.7 million colors. It exhibits vibrant and bright colors. You can only adjust the adjustable. The display mirrored frame attracts fingerprints even on gentle touch.

The navigation array is located beneath the internal display and consists of two soft keys, four-way toggle with middle OK button, Talk key, and Power/End button. You can customize the four directions of the toggle with functions and customize the shortcuts for home-screen.

The alphanumeric keypad of the Nokia 7510 Supernova has spacious keys separated with each other. The buttons are flush inside the surface and a bit more slippery. They also have dim backlighting. However, we did not face any problem while typing during test.

The Nokia 7510 SuperNova can store 2000 contacts in its phonebook. It displays 20 entries for each dialed, missed, and received calls. Each contact can save five phone numbers, one email address, a job title and company name, a formal name, a nickname, a birthday, street address, notes, and a Web URL. You can organize the contacts into caller groups and pair them with one ring-tone, a video and a photo for caller ID.

The basic feature set of the Nokia 7510 Supernova includes text and multimedia messages, 21 polyphonic ring-tones, a speakerphone, a converter, a world clock, a stopwatch, a calculator, a notepad, a to-do list, an alarm clock, a calendar, and a vibrate mode. The additional highlights are quad-band world roaming, instant messenger, a voice memo recorder, Adobe Flash Lite 2.0, Web-based POP3 email accounts, voice commands, USB mass storage, PC synchronization, Wi-Fi with HotSpot @ Home, and Bluetooth.

The 2-megapixel camera features flash/flashlight, multi-shot mode, self-timer and video-recording. The still capture options are white balance options, six color effects, three quality settings, and six resolutions. However, there are no shutter sound choices. You can record the videos limited to 56 seconds for MMS and longer in standard mode. The video recording options are two resolutions and others similar to still capture.

We captured some still pictures and recorded clips for testing. The overall picture quality was good. The images looked overexposed with a bit image noise. The video quality was average.

The music player of the Nokia 7510 Supernova features stereo widening, equalizer, and play-lists. The Supernova also offers FM radio that requires headset connected. You can transfer the music via USB cable or memory card.

The Nokia 7510 Supernova can be personalized with available ring-tones, alert-tones, background colors, and wallpapers. The 7510 cell phone comes with three demo version games: “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?”, Pac-Man/Ms. Pac Man, and Midnight Pool. More options and games can be downloaded through T-Mobile t-zones from WAP 2.0 wireless Web browser.

We made few calls through quad-band based the Nokia 7510 Supernova using T-Mobile service for testing. The overall cal quality was good and satisfactory. We received natural and clear sound without interference and static at our end. However, the volume was a tad low that was not noticeable in noisy situation even at highest volume level. The callers received good sound at their end with tinny volume and more background noise. The speakerphone call quality was average with low volume.

The battery life of the Nokia 7510 Supernova is 3 hours talk time and 12 days of idle standby time. Its digital SAR rating is 0.84watt per kg in accordance with the FCC radiation tests.

Nitty Gritty:

The Nokia 7510 Supernova is an affordable and entry-level phone with Wi-Fi, 2-megapixel camera with flash, and Bluetooth; but it suffers with low volume during calls.

If you can overcome above drawback, then the Nokia 7510 for T-Mobile is a good choice to buy.
