Razzle Dazzle:

Nokia Mural 6750 is a downright sexy phone. It has looks that is similar to Motorola Krzr, the chin being present in both the phones. The phone has a stylish metallic exterior that feels pretty good in the hands and gives a rugged look to the phone. There are three music buttons on the lid of the phone and the exterior of the phone has a volume rocker and a push-to-talk (PTT) button. There is also a 2.5 phone headset jack and a micro USB port for USB and charger.

Inside Dope:

Nokia Mural 6750 is a clam shell model phone and it has a screen on the lid too. The screen on the lid will give you time, network service, signal strength, battery and numeric caller ID. We reviewed Sony Ericsson Equinox before this and in both the phones we would have liked a photo caller ID. There are also three music keys on the lid to use when the phone is closed. They give quick access to the music playback. Nokia first did the music access keys thing on Nokia N76 phones.

The inside display of the phone is 2.25 inch, supports 16 million colors and has a 320X240 resolution. The display is bright and sharp just like other Nokia phones. The keyboard is quite different on this phone, it is the kind that you don’t see much. We reviewed the Sony Ericsson Equinox before this and the two keyboards look quite similar. Equinox had a little hard keys but this one is better. You will need a little time to get used to this keypad till then occasional mishits are common. But this keypad spacious and pretty good to type on, once you get used to it. Above the keypad there are two soft buttons, music key, web browser key, camera button and call/call end buttons. There is no back buttons or the ‘c’ that Nokia phones have. The backlighting could have been more.

Nokia follows the calls to go green; this product is made by 80% recycled plastic. The handset is free from benzene, asbestos and CFCs. The packing is made from 25% recycled materials and the user manual uses 10% recycled paper. We appreciate the effort made by Nokia to use recycled paper as we know that recycling paper is costly and complicated process. We just hope that Nokia doesn’t push the cost of recycling on us.

The phone has a 1000 contact phone book and just like other Nokia phones, this one too takes five numbers for a single entry, two e-mails, address, birthday, formal and nick name, company name and job title, and notes. You can assign photos to a person and you can pair up a ring tone for an individual. But the photos won’t show on the external display since it doesn’t support photo ID. The SIM card can hold 250 additional contacts.

The Mural has four hours of talk time and 14 days of stand by time. There are games like Block Breaker, Tetris, Diner Dash 2 and JewelQuest2 but they are all demos, you will have to buy full version separately. The Java apps include My-Cast Weather, a unit and currency converter, Yellowpages Mobile, WikiMobile, world clock, MobiTV, and Mobile Banking.

There is a two mega pixel camera in the back of the phone. Now we know how bad two mega pixel phones are. Nokia has moved on to 3.2 MP cameras and five mega pixel cameras in high end models. There is nothing great about the photos of this camera, they give a max resolution of 1600×1200 and the smallest resolution is 320×240. There are settings for self-timer, three color effects, multishot mode, three quality settings, brightness control, 4x digital zoom and three white balance settings. The video quality too is below average, you cannot send a video of more than 42 seconds through MMS. The camera gives you three resolutions options and has similar set of editing options to camera. There is no flash and no mirror for the camera.

The music quality of Nokia Mural 6750 is quite good. The player supports lots of file formats like AAC, MP3, WMA and has settings like equalizer, playlists, shuffle and repeat modes. You can stick up album art to the song so that it shows the picture when the music is playing. You can create your own ring tones with the included application and can save edited MP3 tracks as ring tones. FM radio is also included. When it comes to storing music you will have to buy a separate microSD card since the internal memory is only 70MB. The phone memory is expandable up to 16 GB. The card is not hot swappable but you don’t have to remove the battery to access the card, since the memory card slot is accessible when you remove the battery cover. There is no 3.5 mm jack so you will have to use the one bundled by Nokia, or get an adapter.

Other features on the phone include notepad, vibrate mode, alarm clock, calendar, to-do list, calculator, full duplex speakerphone, stopwatch, and text and multimedia messaging.

There is also Bluetooth, a file manager, PC syncing (you get Nokia PC suite software disc) voice dialing, modem support and voice recorder. You can access POP3 e-mail. POP3 email is where you don’t have to go to the inbox of your e-mail website and the mail gets delivered to your inbox automatically. POP3 is free if the e-mail website like gmail. But some websites charge a fee for accessing POP3 email.

The phone was tested for call quality and there were quite a lot of background noise that was attracted while talking. Also there is annoying hum during the calls. Few times Nokia failed to register a call. The other party too reported the hum noises and they had problems hearing us. Volume could have been bigger. But the external speaker was better than the handset one and it is pretty loud.

The phone has support for 3G and you can stream video through the internet and also do video talking with people who have compatible handsets. We tested the video calling on this phone, there was a little pixelation but the voice and the video were in sync during the call.

Nitty Gritty:

We liked the Mural a lot, starting from the looks to the internal features. It has everything what you ask for. We recommend this to people who are music enthusiasts since it has good music quality and dedicated music keys on the lid.
